RoadTech – Keeping Northern Norway’s Roads Open in Winter

The Challenge

A Northern Norway faces some of the harshest winter conditions in Europe. Snow often covers mountain roads, making them impassable for weeks. In many cases, the only way to travel is in convoys led by snowplows at specific times of the day.

This situation creates serious challenges for:

  • Snowplow drivers who must manage convoys safely in difficult conditions
  • Road users who need clear, reliable information to travel safely
  • Authorities who want to keep roads open for as long as possible to avoid isolation of communities
The goal of the RoadTech project was clear: improve communication, coordination, and safety on these critical winter roads.

Our Role

Easy Tech Partners was responsible for the entire technical side of the project.

We developed two key solutions:

  • An assistant tool for snowplow drivers – providing them with real-time support, convoy coordination, and communication.
  • Mobile applications for convoy participants – giving drivers timely updates, guidance, and alerts to ensure safer travel.

The Outcome

The results were better than expected:

  • Zero road closures on the stretches we supported.
  • Even in exceptionally severe winter conditions, roads stayed open and passable.
  • Drivers and road users had a more reliable and safer experience.

Takeaway

Technology, when applied to real-world challenges, can directly improve safety and accessibility.
The RoadTech project shows how thoughtful digital solutions can keep communities connected — even in some of the toughest environments in Europe.
